“Grenzmauer ’75” is a single track 23-minute field recording of the Berlin Wall. It’s the debut piece of a series about real and virtual walls & other political obstacles, called “Barriers”. All proceeds will be donated to Sea-Watch e.V. in order to prevent more victims of modern-day barriers.

Grenzmauer is the German word for ‘border wall’. The field recording was created by scraping a contact microphone over the last remaining part of the Berlin Wall on both sides. The resulting recording was then cut up and filtered, in similar fashion to how walls filter people’s movement. The result is a wall of sound projected to the left and right stereo channels to represent east and west.
